YFF Foundation
The YFF Foundation was formed in early 2015 with the purpose of assisting individuals and/or families with substantial issues that life has dealt. It is intended that we will provide assistance through league-wide campaigns as needed to acquire the resources that may help someone's situation.
Origins of the foundation
One Saturday evening, Commissioner Hart met with an acquaintance he met over 10 years ago and had not seen her since, along with a parent from one of the Federation's teams. This lady had been raising a child as her grandson who is neither a blood relative nor in-law. The child was severely abused as an infant and is confined to a wheelchair and suffers from seizures on an on-going basis. The story of this young boy nearly brought tears to the Commissioner's eyes as he spoke with this lady…her name Stacy Williams-Crews.
Stacy had been trying to raise funds to acquire a van equipped with a wheelchair ramp. She reached out to me for assistance in spreading the word about her “grandson” as she was aware of Commissioner Hart's efforts to help youngsters from over 10 years ago in a local martial arts program.
Stacy’s story about this youngster (Jacah) compelled the Commissioner to want to help them in more ways than she asked. With this desire, feedback was requested from the Federation Executive Board on a few ideas to help this family and others. Thus the formation of the YFF Foundation, and our first campaign from this effort. The Federation will help pass the word about Jacah and issue a press release to local media in hopes to gain city-wide support for an upcoming fundraiser.
Jacah happens to love football, but unfortunately, he will likely never get the chance to experience playing the game. If you want to know more about Jacah, please see the following Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/JacahsLadder.
